Description

Stellar Evolution & the Origin of the Elements, a talk by Timothy Thompson, Mount Wilson Institute Trustee. Mount Wilson Observatory celebrates the 150th Anniversary of the Periodic Table, with this lecture that will explore the various process, from the BIg Bang to neutron star collisions, that produced the plethora of elements that make up the Solar System. The speaker will put the Periodic Table in context of George Ellery Hale's epic quest to understand the evolution of stars -- a central theme of most of the research conducted at Mount Wilson Observatory.

After the lecture, the 100-inch Telescope will be opened for attendees to look through. This is contingent on the weather. The number of objects visitors will get to see will depend on the number in attendance. We want everyone to get a chance to look through a famous telescope.
