Description
The Search for Life, a lecture by Dr. John Mulchaey, Director of the Carnegie Observatories, in Pasadena and Chile. One of the most fundamental questions in astronomy is: how common is life elsewhere in the Universe? With the discovery of thousands of planets around nearby stars, the answer to this question may finally be in reach. Dr. Mulchaey will describe how new generations of instruments, telescopes, and space missions are being designed to look for the signatures of life elsewhere.
After the lecture, the 100-inch Telescope will be opened for attendees to look through. This is contingent on the weather. The number of objects visitors will get to see will depend on the number in attendance. We want everyone to get a chance to look through this famous telescope.
